Subject: PAWS dog park – we need public support!
Hi everyone,
I am writing to ask for your assistance with the dog park. We are thrilled to report that we have signed a lease agreement with the manager of “The Grove” on Snow King Ave. The property is on the market for sale, but the manager is amenable to us using it for the purpose of a dog park until he is able to sell it or develop it. The property is free to PAWS and we are hoping to host our park there for a minimum of two years.
We went before the town council last week to ask that they waive the development fees, because we are donating this valuable facility to the town. Unfortunately, they unanimously voted against the fee waiver. What this means is that PAWS will have to pay upwards of $2,000 to the town to develop the property. While we are extremely disappointed by this lack of support from our elected officials, we are moving forward.
Because we are donating the park, we have asked that the town expedite the planning process for the minimal development required (sod, fencing, water). A typical development plan takes 5 months to get through planning and we simply don’t have the time. If the land sells, PAWS will have 90 days to vacate and find another location. So far, the town has not agreed to help us expedite.
PAWS is prepared to make a substantial investment in our community, but it doesn’t make sense for us to spend valuable donated resources if we are unable to launch this summer. If the town won’t work with us to expedite the development, PAWS will have to walk away.
We are asking for public support! Please talk to your elected officials and urge them to expedite this process. Call the Mayor at, (307) 733-3932 or email members of town council at the below email addresses:
