The bike path was created for children, adults, and pets to exercise safely. I can understand not permiiting dogs on the school grounds and athletic fields. However, restricting the use of the pathways directly across from JHMS and Summit is unfair.
It’s the owners that need to be more responsible. Do not punish the entire community for those who are negligent pet owners. This could have been dealt with more considreation and fairness.
I find it dissappointing that the Schools made a decision without first trying to solve the problem or contacting the Town, County & Pathways (although that was claimed by them – as reported in newspaper). Further, their explanation of “issues” is not very descriptive and does not let us know what the problems were.
At the Middle School, there have been mutt mitt stations installed since I think late summer, they have not been there before. Look at the dike and other areas around the valley and you will see what a successful program that is and how it reduces the mess.
I am a middle school path and ski track user on a regular basis from 5:00 to 6:30 AM and am not sure how my use constitues “issues”. There are community solutions out there that can solve the problems the school is facing. If the “issue” is dog/child interacations at recess or somthing similar, maybe restricting hours for dogs outside of school hours, etc. Regardless of the what the solution is, there is a solution and the Schools owe that to the community.
